- 500 g strong white bread flour
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 1 ½ tsp sugar
- 1 ½ tsp instant yeast
- 300 ml water
Prepare the Dough:
Add the water to the bread machine pan. Next, add the flour, ensuring it covers the water. Make a small well in the center of the flour and add the yeast, sugar, and salt.
Knead and Proof:
Set your bread machine to the “Dough” setting and let it run. This usually takes about 1.5 hours.
Shape the Dough:
Once the dough is ready, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide it into two equal portions and shape each into a round, flat disc about 1 inch thick.
Proof Again:
Place the shaped dough onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 20-30 minutes.
Bake:
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Bake the Stottie Cakes for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool and Serve:
Let the bread cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with butter or your favorite fillings.
